DEPARTMENT'S PRESENTATION

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, being a historical reference point for the continuous and qualitative education, research and development that it offers to the Greek society, created the Department of Digital Industry Technologies (DIT), as an intervention in the context of the 4th industrial revolution, known as Industry 4.0. The 4th Industrial Revolution aims at the coexistence and interaction of man and machine, in integrating physical, digital and biological worlds with indistinguishable boundaries. The Department aims to become a reference point in Greece and abroad for the 4th industrial revolution, with the cooperation of man and machine applying intelligent technologies and the digital transformation of industry. The Department offers a solid educational background in technologies related to:

  1. The broader area of computing and telecommunications with a focus on data management and analysis (big data, (industrial) Internet of Things)
  2. Automation (robotics, automatic control, cyber-physical systems, 3D printing, drones),
  3. Interconnection of information systems (broadband networks, cloud computing)
  4. Intelligent interfaces of people and cyber-physical systems
  5. Techno-economic analysis in combination with information management systems, decision making and decision support methods, focusing on modern, digital industry and its management.

Therefore, the Department contributes to important thematic specializations of a national strategy for the digital transformation of the Greek industry, such as smart factories, interconnected supply networks, digitalized healthcare ecosystem, retail sector, digital customer experience, 5G networks, future of work in the digital era, needs for digital skills, digital transformation of public administration, and many more. The Department aims to meet the demand for executives with a strong background in digital technologies, IT, innovation & technology management. The Department's curriculum contributes significantly to this direction and to the training of Greek industry personnel in digital transformation technologies such as:

•            Cloud Computing Technologies

•             Internet of Things

•             Robotics and Automation

•             Cyberphysical Systems

•             3D printing

•            Artificial Intelligence, Μachine Learning

PROFESSIONAL PROSPECTS OF GRADUATES

Graduates of the Department of Digital Industry Technologies, based on the general and specialized scientific knowledge acquired during their studies, have a background in digital industry technologies, which contribute to education, research and development of the 4th industrial revolution. Therefore, they have the ability to engage in activities such as study, design, analysis, implementation, installation, supervision, operation, evaluation, expert assessment and certification, with a focus on employment in the industrial sector, but also in other productive sectors and services in the private and public sector.

They may also be involved, indicatively, with

  1. the provision of services in industrial, craft and production units with a technological background, IT, network and technical services units of public organisations, the media, transport, shipping, tourism, business consultancies and high-tech companies.
  2. teaching in higher and secondary education, as well as in technical and vocational training, public and private, at theoretical, technological and applied level in the scientific fields mentioned above.
  3. research and development in public and private research centres in the scientific fields mentioned above.

The Department of Digital  Industry Technologies is located in the Evripou Building Complex of the University of Athens, in Psahna, near the historic town of Chalkida, where all academic, teaching, research, administrative services and other activities are housed. It should be noted that there is a daily direct connection with numerous bus services between the complex and Athens. The Department has new educational laboratories that support the curriculum and laboratory units that promote research in the Department's fields of study. The Department accepts students from the 2nd and 4th Scientific Fields from the Panhellenic Examinations.
